camera location, including casualty figures.

Information about the casualty data published
on this web site
- The 3-year 'before' period used in these
figures is not necessarily the same period used to make the decision
to install a camera. For example, the actual period used to select
a site which was installed in 2002 might have been June 1999-May
2001, whereas these figures would use January 1999-December 2001.
These figures use calendar years for the purpose of consistency.
- An increase in casualties does not necessarily
mean an increase in collisions. For example, 1 collision could result
in 2 people sustaining injuries one year, but the following year
1 collision could result in injuries being suffered by 6 people.
- Because of the small numbers involved,
going from 0 casualties before to 2 casualties after installation
of a camera is not indicative of an ineffective camera. Accidents
are, by their own definition, unpredictable and open to natural
fluctuation in their occurrence.
- These casualty statistics refer to the
stretch of road within 1km of the camera housing. This means that
collisions could be occurring some distance away from the camera
but still within the given boundary, rather than at the exact location
of the safety camera.
