Introduction

ChatSafeThe world wide web is a wonderful place full of information, entertainment and a new way of making friends.

The internet has opened up a whole new world in cyber space, where you can communicate with people you may never meet face to face.

From an early age we are taught about the potential dangers posed by some strangers and ways to avoid getting into harmful situations.
Unfortunately many children and teenagers do not use the same caution when using the internet.

Chat Safe, an initiative recently resurrected by Cambridgeshire Constabulary, originated as a partnership project between Thames Valley Police and the Royal Air Force. The two forces have worked together to provide an information package about using chatrooms. The package includes a video starring Carol Vorderman, lesson plans for teachers, a leaflet, poster and mousemat.

There are also links to a number of organisations who can offer help and advice. Remember though, if it is an emergency dial 999.
